Beauty Favorites July 2017

Hey everybody! I have a monthly series I’m starting, beauty favorites! I love these kind of posts, since it’s fun to see what people are loving at the moment. My list is a little short this month, since I’ve been playing more with skincare than with makeup. But I have made a couple makeup purchases recently, so there’ll be tons of makeup posts coming soon!

I’m not going to beat around the bush on this one, I’m Casper the Friendly Ghost pale so I struggle with finding a foundation to match me. I’m not quite transparent but it’s close. Real freaking close. Most foundations are either too dark at even their lightest shade, or end up oxidizing to the point that the shade that originally matched me no longer does. Which is freaking annoying. But! This foundation not only matches my skintone perfectly, it doesn’t oxidize!

For the past month or so I’ve just been reaching for this foundation immediately, no hesitation. My skin has miraculously not been an oil slick- fingers crossed- so I haven’t needed mega-mattifying powers. Also, I’ve been color correcting and using concealer I don’t need heavy coverage like I used to. This gives just enough coverage that it doesn’t look like a mask, doesn’t cling to texture, and retains just enough dewiness that it looks healthy when I wear it. All I do is lightly set my T-zone and I am good to go for the day. Thanks UD, I owe you one.

Jeffree StarxManny MUA Skin Frost in Eclipse

As far as highlighters go, I don’t quite have the love affair with them that I do with thinks like eyeshadows and lipsticks. It takes a lot for me to really fall in love with a shade. But I found the one that’s really been doing it for me lately, and it’s this one by Jeffree Star. I’d been hearing everything under the sun about his products, but I hadn’t yet had the urge to buy anything until I saw this product. It wasn’t the brand or the collab necessarily that drew me in, but the color. Also the pretty packaging, don’t judge me.

It’s a beautiful silvery pink, and it can be built up or toned down very easily. Not only that, but it’s pale enough that it doesn’t look like mismatched blush on my cheeks. I’ve been taking it with me as my travel mirror because it’s huge, and I even went disco ball status with it a few times. Usually, a highlight is too glittery or makes me look too greasy for that. I love this shade, and I’m hoping I can make it last because I don’t have a backup. (I know, I didn’t think I’d love it so much.)

It’s sold out unfortunately, but if you can check out the other shades here.

Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Light/Medium Matte Bronzer

Now for how I trick people into not thinking I’m see-through.

Here’s the thing: I’m pretty cool toned. That means that warm shades are not always the friendliest thing I can put on my face. If it’s even a touch too warm, it looks like dirt. Ick. So finding a bronzer shade that isn’t too dark and isn’t too warm is a very fine balancing act. It’s usually one where I lose and fall over and make an idiot of myself. But sometimes, I find a match.

This powder gives me just enough color and warmth so that I look neither dead nor undead but alive and almost perky (I have chronic bitch face, perky is not quite the word for me). It blends out nicely so if I do get a little heavy handed I can avert a crisis, and a little goes a long, long way.

Oh, and it smells like chocolate.

You can find it at Sephora or Ulta

Eyeshadows- Makeup Geek Shadows in Beaches & Cream, Creme Brulee, and Moondust

When I first really started getting into makeup, really getting into it, one of the first Youtubers I started watched was Marlena Stell from Makeup. And when I found out she had her own brand, Makeup Geek Cosmetics, I immediately began building my eyeshadow collection with her products. Reasonably priced, gorgeous colors, and reportedly unbeatable quality? Take my money.

I’ve recently gone back to religiously using her shadows because of the creamy formula, pigmentation, blendability, and long wear time. Specifically I’ve been using Beaches & Cream, which is my perfect transition color; Creme Brulee, just deep enough for shading; and finally Moondust, a beautiful dimensional taupe. I’ll sweep Beaches & Cream over the entire eyelid lightly, and concentrate more in the crease, then deepen the crease and go under the eye with Creme Brulee, and finally pat Moondust all over the lid. A quick, easy, and beautiful combination that always gets me compliments.

I have a couple dozen more of her eyeshadows that I’ll be reviewing soon! (And I’ll totally be buying more. One of everything please!)

That’s it for my July favorites! It’s definitely been an experimentation month for me, so as I get settled back in to blogging and playing with products the next months will definitely be more in depth. While you’re here, check out my social media down below, and take a look around! It’s back to school, so if you’re getting ready to go back to college maybe read up on my college makeup must-haves! I know, I don’t know why more people don’t talk about them. I want to try a couple of the other ones that they have, too.
