My Current Favorite Face Masks

Everyone has those products that they just have a bunch of, sometimes it’s stationery (guilty), books (also guilty), or skincare (again, guilty). But something I’ve really been learning to appreciate are face masks. They give my skincare routine an extra boost of cleansing, resurfacing, and treatment. My skin can be problematic, so having a mask that can sit on my skin and get to work can really make all the difference.

Want to know my current favorites face masks for my combination skin? Let’s get into it.

Favorite Clay Mask

Right now, I’m honestly still really enjoying the Muddy Body clay masks, especially the Relax one. You might remember these from my post about products Instagram made me buy. These took a little getting used to, since I’d never actually used this kind of clay mask before (one I needed to mix on my own). My biggest problem had been figuring out how much to use, since the consistency was really variable. But now that I have a handle on it, I love these masks.

They’re gentle on my skin, and not harsh at all, which is sometimes a challenge for me with clay formulas. They don’t dry down so hard my face can’t move, and have never left my skin irritated. When I wash them off, using a mask sponge from Eco Tools (which I recommend by the way), my skin is left feeling so soft, refreshed, and soothed. The relax one especially leaves my skin calmed and hydrated, which makes it perfect for use during breakouts. Something nice that you can do, which I haven’t actually tried yet, is using things like apple cider vinegar to mix with the mask instead of just water. I definitely need to give that a try.

Favorite Sheet Mask

There is something insanely fun about putting on a mask that makes you look like Jason, scaring the crap out of your dad, and then taking it off later with all kinds of benefits to your skin. That aside, I love using sheet masks because they deliver targeted treatments to my skin, plus intense hydration while being low maintenance. Clean up is a breeze, I mean you just take off the sheet and massage the left over serum into your skin. I even like using a jade roller, just because it feels so nice on my skin.

In particular, I’m really  loving using the Mizon Essence masks. Before I went cruelty free, I used a lot of Korean skincare because the products are fantastic. One problem though: a lot of K beauty isn’t cruelty free, often because they sell in China. However, after doing some digging, it seems that Mizon is actually cruelty free! (If someone has evidence otherwise though, please let me know since CF status can be hard to keep track of.) The Mizon masks always give me results, and have never irritated my skin like a couple of brands have. I also love the wide range of concerns they address, so you’re generally sure to find one that works for you. They’re available on Amazon in multipacks too, so you can try a bunch for not too much money, and see which works best for you!

Favorite Peel-Off Mask

Peel-off masks are just freaking satisfying, okay? They’re also the easiest to clean up, since there’s no sheet to throw away and nothing to wash off. Part of the fun too is that they help remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells and pore clogSome sheet masks, however, haven’t been real easy for me to use due to their formula, but the Freeman Beauty masks are just right for me.

They’re available in small packets like the ones in my pictures, so you can try them before you buy a whole one! Super helpful, and they’re widely available at places like Walmart, so they don’t break the bank and they have a mask for every skin type. These are great quick and dirty masks, because sometimes I really don’t feel like sitting there for 15 minutes with a mask on my face, but I want results. Also, they’re great for travel when you get them in the one or two use packs. Just because I’m traveling doesn’t mean I don’t want to keep up with my skincare, ya know?
