The Month of Masks

After a few months off blogging, I wanted to jump back in with a challenge for myself. I’m off classes until late August, and there are a few things I’m trying to work on during this summer break. Skincare being a big one. I’m also a bit of a mask hoarder. So for the month of July, I decided to challenge myself to use a face mask a day , and blog about it. Could be great, could be a disaster. Let’s get into the details of the Month of Masks!

The Plan

This challenge is pretty straight-forward. I’ll be using one mask a day for the month of July, a different mask every day, no repeats.

I’ll be posting at the end of the week on Sunday with a recap of which masks I used, pick a favorite, and give mini reviews of each. On my Instagram, I’ll be posting a picture a day of the masks that I’m using, plus a blurb of how I’m liking it while using it. Some I have used before, but others I never have.  For the masks I’ll use that aren’t cruelty free, I will be noting that in the post or caption. The companies will not be tagged, or linked.

I won’t be using any chemically exfoliating or “peel” masks, though I will be using peel off masks. This is so that I don’t risk over-working my skin, which is a pretty real “risk” with this. I also will try and stagger types of masks so that I can give my skin a bit of a break with gentler masks every other day or so. My skin handles stress just about as well as I do, which isn’t very well. So, I’m trying to make this as easy as possible on my skin.

The reason I picked a month is real simple: it takes about a month for the skin cells to completely regenerate. You’ll only see the real bulk of results of a skincare routine after at least three weeks, more clearly around 4. Most people don’t test skincare products long enough, so I wanted this… adventure to give ample time for me to actually see what a month will do to my skin.

The Goal

There are a couple of end goals I have with this ridiculous plan of a month of masks. First off, I’m curious as hell. I just really want to see what this kind of skincare routine, and no better way than to make me the damn guinea pig.

Second, I have a lot of face masks, which I’ve mentioned on my Twitter. In sheet masks alone I have about thirty. It’s ridiculous, and as I’ve talked about in my post on
goals for the year, I’m trying to be a more conscious consumer and err more on the side of minimalism. I don’t need as many things as I have, and using up what I can can help make a dent.

But a big part of this for me is that I have a number of not cruelty free masks that I  haven’t used up, especially sheet masks. So, during the month of masks, I’m hoping to try and get that stock whittled down a bit. I spoke about this a bit in my post about switching to cruelty free, but I can’t in good conscience throw out the products I have that aren’t CF. So, I’ll use them up, and note them when applicable if I happen to include them in a post.

I don’t want to necessarily encourage people to buy from the non-CF companies, so I will never link the product, tag the company, or choose one as the mask of the week. I will mention them so that I’m transparent about what I’m using, but I don’t want to encourage their purchase either. If I can, I will note a cruelty free alternative!

Kicking Off Week One

So today is day one of the month of masks, and I’m really excited to see how this is going to work out!

Admittedly, I have a goldfish-esque attention span at times, so something I’m honestly a little anxious about is screwing up. Missing a day, quitting before I even really started. It’s going to really be a challenge for me, not just skincare-wise, but in terms of content creation. I’ve been struggling with consistency, so this is very much forcing me into a posting schedule. Daily on Instagram, weekly on here. It makes me a little nervous. I’m just really tired of sucking at creating consistently. so while this is definitely the fire under my ass that I need… It actually gets me a little anxious.

But, I’m excited for how my skin is going to do, and I’m excited for giving myself a challenge to meet. If you guys want to join me for the month of masks, I would love the company! Hit me up on Twitter or IG, and let’s do the damn thing.

Would you use face masks every day for a month?

I love masks and do them pretty regularly but doing them every day for a month is some serious commitment! It’ll be interesting to see how your skin reacts I bet! Best of luck!
